Summary of Previous Years

The UNM Solar Splash team was founded in the 2015 - 2016 academic year, and competed as a Rookie team in the 2016 Solar Splash competition. UNM has sent a team to compete in the Solar Splash competition every year since then (except for in 2020 when the competition was canceled due to COVID-19). Each year, the team has performed well at the competition and brought home awards. Below is a list of the awards that the team has won - not too bad for a team from the desert!

2019 – 4th Overall, 3rd Slalom, Teamwork Award

2018 – 4th Overall, 3rd Sprint, 2nd Slalom, 2nd Technical Report, 3rd Visual Display, Outstanding Solar System Design Award, Outstanding Electrical System Design Award, Most Improved Team Award, Outstanding Workmanship Award

2017 – 7th Overall, 2nd Qualifying, 2nd Visual Display, Outstanding Solar System Design Award

2016 – 4th Overall, 2nd Slalom, Outstanding Rookie Team, Sportsmanship Award
